World Indoor long jump champion from Belgrade 2022 and European outdoor from Munich 2022, Ivana Spanovic-Vuleta produced a dream finish to her final competitive season in athletics. The 32-year-old Serbian triumphed in the 2022 Diamond League after winning the last tournament in Zurich with 6.97m (-0.7 m/s).
“I am truly grateful. It was the last race of the season, it was tough. I just tried to stay focused until today. Today I just confirmed the most successful year of my career in which I won the indoor world title and European outdoor gold. I feel blessed. I had an excellent first experience, I was focused on the 7 meter line. I knew I would need 7 meters to win. I will celebrate with my family and husband who are here. Then we’re going on vacation, we’re going to cruise Europe for two weeks”, said Ivana Spanovic-Vuleta, who announced after the Worlds in Eugene that she was retiring from sports.
Ivana Spanovic-Vuleta is a Serbian long jumper, two-time World indoor champion, three times European indoor champion and reigning European champion. In 2013, she became the first Serbian track and field athlete to win a medal at the IAAF Outdoor World Championships. In 2018, she became the first Serbian track and field athlete to win a world senior gold medal at the IAAF Indoor World Championships. She is the Serbian record holder in the long jump, indoors and outdoors, and also she is the national indoor record holder in the 60m and in the pentathlon.
