Italy won bronze at the Women’s Volleyball World Championships

European women’s volleyball champions Italy won bronze at the World Championships in the Netherlands and Poland. The Italian team beat the Olympic champion USA by 3-0 (25:20, 25:15, 27:25) in the match for the 3rd place at the 2022 World Cup, played tonight at the Omnisport Hall in Apeldoorn.

This is also an excellent gift for Italy coach Davide Mazzanti, who is celebrating his birthday today and is turning 46.

Thus Italy won bronze medals in the Women’s Volleyball World Championships for the first time in its history. This is the second consecutive award for Italy after the silver in 2018. Italy also has one world title in 2002.

The USA, on the other hand, remains without a medal for the second consecutive World Championship after the 5th place at the 2018 World Cup and the current 4th position in the final ranking. In its history, the USA has one title (2014), two silver medals (1967 and 2002) and two bronze medals (1982 and 1990).

Above all for Italy was the star Paola Egonu with a great 25 points (4 blocks, 1 ace and 53% attack success rate) for the victory. Despite being only 23 years old, Egonu can refuse further participation in the Italian national team.

For the USA team, Andrea Drews finished with a modest 10 points (1 ace), and captain Kelsey Robinson had 8 points.
