Italy recorded its first victory in the second phase of the Women’s Volleyball World Cup

European volleyball champions Italy recorded their first victory in the second phase of the Women’s World Cup in the Netherlands and Poland. Davide Mazzanti-led girls staged a comeback to beat Japan by 3-1 (20:25, 25:20, 25:14, 25:15) in their second match of Group E of the World Cup.

Thus, Italy remained at the top of the temporary ranking with 6 wins, 1 loss, and 19 points. Japan is in 3rd place with 5 wins, 2 losses, and 15 points. In their next matches, Italy will play against Argentina and the Japanese team will face Puerto Rico. The matches are on Friday (October 7).

Above all for Italy was the star Paola Egonu with a great 26 points (1 block, 1 ace, and 48% attack success rate) for the victory.

For Japan, Arisa Inoue (1 ace, 29% attack success, and 67% perfect reception) and Mayu Ishikawa (30% attack success and 42% perfect reception) scored 15 and 14 points.
