Italy and USA took a lead in Pool B of the Women’s volleyball at the Tokyo Olympics

Italy and USA won their second matches in Pool B of the Women’s volleyball tournament at the Tokyo Olympics.

The USA won versus the reigning Olympic champions of China by 3-0 (29:27; 25:22; 25:21). The USA had a minimal advantage on the first shot and in attack and this proved to be decisive for the success. Jordan Thompson scored 34 points (2 aces, 4 blocks) and Michelle Bartsch-Hackley added 15 more points for the Americans. The captain Jordan Larson scored 12 points. She led USA to gold at the 2014 FIVB World Championship in Milan and followed up with a couple more gold medals in the two FIVB Volleyball Nations League editions so far. But at the Olympic Games she only holds a silver from London 2012 and a bronze from Rio 2016.

Italy won the match versus Turkey by 3-1 (25:22; 23:25; 25:20; 25:15).

In the other match of the Pool, Russia won versus Argentina by 3-0 (25:19; 25:15; 25:13). Thus, the leader in the Pool is the USA with 6 pts (6-0), followed by Italy with 6 pts (6-1) and Turkey with 3 pts (4-3).

In Pool A of the Women’s volleyball tournament at the Tokyo Olympics, Serbia got a second win after beating Japan by 3-0 (25:23; 25:16; 26:24).
