Enrica Merlo is an Italian female volleyball player, playing as a libero for Savino Del Bene Scandicci. She has played for the Italy women’s national volleyball team, winning the 2009 Women’s European Volleyball Championship.
Enrica Merlo was born on December 28, 1988, in Este, Veneto, Italy. She started in volleyball at an early age and quickly showed her skills at school. She joined the local Veneto team’s youth academy and quickly proved her future in volleyball.
Enrica Merlo started her professional in 2004 when, during the current season, she signed with Megius Volley Padova, in Serie A2. She remained with the Veneto team in the following season, after promotion, making her debut in Serie A1. In the 2006/2007 season, she returns to the cadet series wearing the Pallavolo Reggio Emilia shirt.
In the 2007/2008 season, she signed with Foppapedretti Bergamo, in Italian Serie A1. With the club she played for eight seasons, winning an Italian Serie A1 title, an Italian Cup, two Italian Super Cups, and two European Champions Leagues. In 2008, Enrica Merlo also gets her first call-ups to the national team. In 2009 she wins the gold medal both at the Universiade and at the European championship, while in 2010 she wins the bronze medal at the World Grand Prix, where was awarded as the best digger. She was also awarded as the best receiver at the Club World Championship 2010/2011 when her team won the bronze medal, as well as best libero in the Champions League 2008/2009 and 2009/2010.
In the 2015/2016 season, Enrica Merlo signed with Savino Del Bene Scandicci, still in the Italian Serie A1, with which she won the 2021/2022 Challenge Cup and the 2022/2023 CEV Cup. She was selected to play in the Italian League All-Star game in 2017.
Enrica Merlo is definitely one of the top Italian volleyball players in recent years.
