Marta Bassino is an Italian World Cup alpine ski racer, who competes in all disciplines, with a focus on giant slalom, in which she has won five World Cup races. She won the small crystal globe in Giant Slalom in 2021 and is the world champion in Parallel at the 2021 Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Marta Bassino was born on February 27, 1996, in Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy. She won the Junior World Championships in the Giant slalom at the 2014 Jasna.
Marta Bassino made her World Cup debut in March 2014 at age 18, and her first full season on the World Cup circuit was in 2015.
In 2016/2017, she got her first podiums winning the bronze in Giant Slalom at Soelden (Austria), Kronplatz (Italy), and Aspen (USA). She finished 6th in the Giant Slalom standing for the season.
Marta Bassino won the silver in 2017/2018 at the Combined event in Lenzerheide, Switzerland in the next season, but failed to achieve any other race.
In 2018/2019, the Italian Alpine skier won the bronze at the Kronplatz (Italy) Giant slalom.
Marta Bassino won her first gold in 2019/2020 when she was first at the Giant Slalom in Killington, USA. The same season she won the silver at the Gian Slalom in Lienz (Austria) and at the Downhill and Super-G in Bansko (Bulgaria). She had two more podiums during the year at the Combined in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee (Austria) and at the Parallel-G in Sestriere (Italy).
The season 2020/2021 was the most successful for Marta Bassino, winning the small crystal globe in Giant Slalom. She won the gold in Soelden (Austria), Courchevel (France), Kranjska Gora (Slovenia), and the bronze in Kronplatz (Italy). During the season she also won the silver at the Super-G in St. Anton (Austria).
After achieving her best season, however, Marta Bassino had not so high success in 2021/2022, having 4 podiums but without gold. She won silver at the Giant Slalom in Are (Sweden) and Meribel (France), as well as the bronze in Courchevel (France) and Kranjska Gora (Slovenia).
Marta Bassino is one of the talented Alpine skiers and definitely this season we will expect more podiums from her.
