Irene Schouten won the title in women’s 5,000m speed skating at the Beijing 2022 Olympics

The Dutch Irene Schouten won the second title in speed skating at the Beijing 2022 Olympics. The 29-year-old Irene Schouten won the gold medal in the longest women’s individual distance – 5,000m with a new Olympic record of 6:43.51 min. She broke the old Olympic record of German Claudia Pechstein from Salt Lake City 2002 by 3.4 sec.

A few days ago, Irene Schouten won the 3,000m title. With today’s victory, the Netherlands already has three gold medals in three women’s speed skating disciplines and a total of four titles out of five men’s and women’s starts.

Canadian Isabelle Weidemann won the silver medal with a result of 6:48.18 min, and the bronze medal went to 34-year-old Czech Martina Sablikova, who finished in 6:50.09 min.

Twelve skaters took part in the 5,000m race, with Francesca Lollobrigida of Italy finishing fourth, Norway’s Ragne Wiklund finishing fifth, and the world record holder Natalya Voronina from the Russian Olympic Committee finished sixth.

Irene Schouten is a Dutch speed skater who competes in allround, marathon, and inline-skating events.
