More than four years after her last victory in the Alpine Skiing World Cup, Ilka Stuhec once again climbed to the top step of the ladder of honor after winning the second downhill in Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italy). For the former world champion and winner of the small crystal globe in downhill, this is the first victory since the super-giant slalom in Val Gardena (Italy) on December 19, 2018.
Today, Ilka Stuhec won the wind-shortened race at the top of the Olympia delle Tofane circuit with a time of 1:04.73 min, beating by 0.26 sec Kajsa Vickhoff Lie (Norway), who, with the 30th starting number, made one very strong run. The top three was completed by Elena Curtoni (Italy), who finished 0.34 sec behind the winner.
Lara Gut-Behrami (Switzerland) finished just 0.01 sec off the podium, sharing fourth place with Ragnhild Mowinckel (Norway). Priska Nufer (Switzerland) and Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) were sixth and seventh, respectively 0.37 sec and 0.39 sec slower than the winner.
The big favorite for the victory in today’s downhill in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Sofia Goggia (Italy) lost control of her skis in the middle of the course and fell. Fortunately for the Italian’s fans, she got up and made it to the end zone on her own, although her fall looked ominous from the sidelines.
With four wins, one second place, and two eliminations in the seven downhills since the start of the season, Sofia Goggia remains at the top of the standings in the discipline with 480 points and a lead of 108 points over today’s winner Ilka Stuhec. The third place is occupied by today’s bronze medalist Elena Curtoni, who has an asset of 278 points.
In the general classification for the World Cup, Mikaela Shiffrin is convincingly in the lead with 1281 points, second with 796 points is Petra Vlhova (Slovakia), who did not start today. The third position is for Lara Gut-Behrami, whose asset is 731 points.
The Women’s World Cup continues tomorrow with the super-giant slalom in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
