The second-seeded Iga Swiatek won the title of the tennis tournament WTA 1000 Miami Open. In the final, the 21-year-old Pole defeated four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka (Japan) with 2-0 (6:4, 6:0) in 79 minutes. Thus, she recorded her 17th consecutive victory and won the third consecutive title in the WTA 1000 tournaments.
In the first set, Iga Swiatek made just one break in the fifth game, which was enough to win it by 6:4. In the second set, she completely dominated and did not give a single game to Naomi Osaka, closing the match with her first matchball.
For the Polish tennis player, this is the first victory over Naomi Osaka in two matches. On Monday, she will become number one in the WTA world rankings, replacing Ashleigh Barty (Australia), who retired from professional tennis.
The 20-year-old tennis player is the first to win consecutive titles in Indian Wells and Miami after Victoria Azarenka in 2016 and the fourth in history after Steffi Graf (1994, 1996), Kim Clijsters (2005) and Victoria Azarenka.
Iga Swiatek is also the first to win the first three WTA 1000 tournaments in a single season – Doha, Indian Wells and Miami. For her, this is the sixth trophy in her career.
“I feel really happy and proud of myself. I feel I have to celebrate because I don’t know how long I can continue this series”, said Iga Swiatek after the success. “I learned a lot about myself and I no longer need to feel 100 percent to win my matches against big rivals. I think I believe more in my qualities right now”, added she.
Iga Swiatek is a Polish professional tennis player. She is the youngest player in the top ten of the Women’s Tennis Association rankings and reached a career-high ranking of No 1 in the world on April 4, 2022.
