In the second round, Iga Swiatek defeated Elise Mertens (Belgium) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:4) in 1:34 hours of play in her clay debut of the season. The Polish tennis player showed steady play in the first set and led 5:1 before closing it at 6:3. She rallied from 2:3 to 4:3 in the second game and successfully closed out the match on her fourth match point. In the quarterfinals, Iga Swiatek will face Emma Raducanu.
The British tennis talent defeated Linda Noskova (Czech Republic) by 2-0 (6:0, 7:5) in a match that lasted an hour and 21 minutes. Emma Raducanu won seven straight games in the match, which ended with a break at the end of the second set.
The fourth-seeded Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) prevailed over Veronika Kudermetova (Russia) by 2-1 (7:6, 1:6, 6:4) and reached a match against the Jasmine Paolini (Italy) in the quarterfinals. Elena Rybakina had to go through a tiebreak in the first set, and in the second part she fell behind 0:5 and lost 1:6. She allowed a break at the start of the third set, but turned to 4:1 and did not allow any hesitation until the final 6:4.
Jasmine Paolini eliminated seventh-seeded Ons Jabeur (Tunisia) after 2-0 (7:6, 6:4) in an hour and 46 minutes of play.
The sixth-seeded Marketa Vondrousova (Czech Republic) also qualified for the quarterfinals, defeating Anastasia Potapova (Russia) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:1). The Wimbledon champion will face second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) in a match from the quarter-finals.
