Women’s world number one and top-seeded Iga Swiatek (Poland) started her participation at the Paris 2024 Olympics with a straight-set victory over Irina-Camelia Begu (Romania). Th Polish tennis player won by 2-0 (6:2, 7:5) on the Roland Garros courts in a match that lasted an hour and 46 minutes.

Iga Swiatek won 70% of her first serves and hit 18 winners in her first-round win. In the next match, the Polish tennis player will face the winner of the match between Nadia Podoroska (Argentine) and Diane Parry (France).

Iga Swiatek started with a quick break and took a 2:0 lead, but the Romanian broke it back on the Pole’s next serve to level the score at 2:2. However, Irina-Camelia Begu did not win more on her own serve, and Iga Swiatek broke in the sixth and eighth games for the final 6:2.

The two tennis players started equally the second set to 3:3, and Irina-Camelia Begu broke in the seventh game and took the lead for the first time in the match. However, Iga Swiatek won the Romanian’s serve in the tenth game and equalized to 5:5, after which she again took the lead on her own serve. The Polish tennis player did not give a point to Irina-Camelia Begu in the next game and ended the match with the first match point.

Jasmine Paolini, who lost to Iga Swiatek in the Roland Garros final this year, also did not lose a set against a Romanian opponent at the start. The Italian, who is 4th-seeded, won by 2-0 (7:5, 6:3) over Ana Bogdan and will face the winner between Magda Linette (Poland) and Mirra Andreeva (Russia).
