Iga Swiatek smashed Anastasia Potapova to advance to the quarter-finals of Roland Garros

World number one Iga Swiatek (Poland) qualified for the quarterfinals of the French Open / Roland Garros tennis championship.

The top-seeded Polish player, who has been defending the title for the past two seasons, defeated Anastasia Potapova (Russia) by 2-0 (6:0, 6:0) in just 40 minutes on court Philippe-Chatrier.

She dropped just 10 points throughout the match and advanced to her fifth straight Roland Garros quarterfinal. Iga Swiatek has shown excellent form and is poised to win her third consecutive French Open title and fourth in the last five years.

Anastasia Potapova was playing in the second week of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career, but the Pole took complete control of the game and left her no chance. The crowd tried to encourage the Russian in the second set, but Iga Swiatek looked calm, forcing her opponent into mistakes.

“I was just really focused and not looking at the score, but yeah, it happened pretty quickly, which is weird. Because we played very early with the roof open, it’s always a little bit different, but it’s still not too warm. It doesn’t feel like summer in Europe, but we’ll see what happens in two days”, said Iga Swiatek.

In a match for a place in the semi-finals, Iga Swiatek will play against fifth-seeded Marketa Vondroussova (Czech Republic), who eliminated Olga Danilovic (Serbia) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:2) in 80 minutes. The Czech player is the champion of Wimbledon in 2023 and a finalist of Roland Garros in 2019.
