The top-seeded Iga Swiatek (Poland) did not face any difficulties in her start at the WTA 1000 Canadian Open and eliminated in the second round Karolina Pliskova (Czech republic) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:2) in 1:50 hours of play.
In the first set the both players exchanged two breaks each and none of them was able to take a lead in the games. Thus, it entered a tiebreak, which has plenty of turnovers and finally Iga Swiatek won by 8-6.
In the second set, Karolina Pliskova was not able to show any resistance to her opponent and suffered two breaks from the very beginning and thus the result became 5:1 in favor of the world’s number one. Iga Swiatek closed the set at 6:2 and qualified for the third round of the prestigious Masters’ tournament, known also as Rogers Cup, where will face another Czech player, the 14th-seeded Karolina Muchova, who eliminated Sorana Cirstea (Romania) after 2-0 (&:5, 6:4).
The 6th-seeded Cori Coco Gauff (USA) also advanced to the third round of the tournament, defeating Katie Boulter (Great Britain) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2) and will face the 9th-seeded Marketa Vondrousova (Czech Republic), who eliminated Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) by 2-0 (6:2, 7:5).
The 15th-seeded Liudmila Samsonova (Russia) defeated Qinwen Zheng (China) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:3).
