Iga Swiatek (Poland) qualified for the second round of the WTA 250 Warsaw Open hard court tennis tournament. The Polish tennis player, who is the world’s number one, defeated Nigina Abduraimova (Uzbekistan) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3).

It was Iga Swiatek’s first match since her loss in the Wimbledon quarterfinals to Elina Svitolina. The Polish tennis player will try to win a fourth title in 2023 in her second appearance at the home tournament in Warsaw.

in her opening match at the WTA 250 Warsaw Open, Iga Swiatek won eight of the last 11 games in the match after a 4:4 score in the first set of the match, which lasted 1 hour and 36 minutes.

“This is a special tournament that is not easy to play in. I am very happy to be able to play in front of Polish fans again. The first rounds are always quite difficult, especially after the last matches on grass. I hope to play all better every day. I need to work a lot more”, said the 22-year-old Iga Swiatek after the end of her match against Nigina Abduraimova (Uzbekistan).

In the next round of the tournament in Warsaw, the Polish player will face Claire Liu (USA) or Yue Yuan (China).

The finalist of the last edition of Roland Garros, Karolina Muchova (czech Republic), also qualified for the second round of the WTA 250 Warsaw Open. The 2nd-seeded Czech player prevailed after a turnover by 2-1 (4:6, 7:6, 6:3) against Aliaksandra Sasnovich (Belarus).
