The world’s number one Iga Swiatek has overcome another obstacle at the last Grand Slam tournament of the year – the US Open. The Polish tennis player recorded a 2-0 (6:3, 6:4) victory over the American Lauren Davis in about 2 hours of play and is already in the Round of 16.
In the first set, Iga Swiatek needed one break to win the set. In the second, however, things did not go well for the 21-year-old Polish tennis player, who allowed an early break and was behind by 0:3, and then 1:4. However, she showed her spirit and won five straight games to turn the set and thus win the match 6:4 in her favor.
Iga Swiatek’s next opponent will be the German Jule Niemeier, who eliminated Qinwen Zheng by 2-0 (6:4, 7:6).
The 6th-seeded Aryna Sabalenka also advanced to the next round after defeating Clara Burel by 2-0 (6:0, 6:2). In the next round she will face the American Danielle Collins, who qualified for the Round of 16 after a victory over Alize Cornet by 2-0 (6:4, 7:6).
