Iga Swiatek qualified for the Round of 16 at the WTA 1000 Miami Open

Iga Swiatek Miami

The top-seeded and world’s number one Iga Swiatek (Poland) qualified for the Round of 16 at the WTA 1000 Miami Open tennis tournament. The Polish tennis player again had a very difficult match against Linda Noskova (Czech Republic), who surprisingly eliminated her in the third round of the Australian Open. Iga Swiatek lost the first set, but still managed to make a comeback and win the match 2-1 (6:7, 6:4, 6:4).

This is the third match between them this season, and the victory came after 2 hours and 33 minutes of play. After this success, Iga Swiatek now leads with 3-1 victories against the 19-year-old Czech.

“As you can see, you can’t take everything for granted. Anyone can struggle in the early stages of a tournament. There is no point in talking about the “solar double”. For sure this match is an experience for me and I know what I need to concentrate on a little bit more because I didn’t feel 100% comfortable all the time. I mean, I thought it would be easier to get used to the new conditions and the new balls, but today it wasn’t like that, it was difficult”, said Iga Swiatek.

In the next round, Iga Swiatek will face Ekaterina Alexandrova (Russia), who eliminated her compatriot Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova by 2-1 (6:4, 3:6, 6:3).

Caroline Garcia (France) eliminated the former world’s number one Naomi Osaka (Japan) with 2-0 (7:6, 7:5). The two are now playing for the third time this year, with Caroline Garcia winning at the Australian Open, but Naomi Osaka getting revenge at the Doha tournament. In the first set, Naomi Osaka managed to save seven set points, but still conceded in the tiebreak. In the second set, Naomi Osaka made a break for 3:2, but the Caroline Garcia immediately made a re-break.

In the next phase, Caroline Garcia will face the third-seeded Cori Coco Gauff (USA).
