Iga Swiatek made a strong start at the French Open

The top-seeded and world’s tennis number one Iga Swiatek (Poland) made s strong start at the French Open / Roland Garros after defeating Cristina Bucsa (Spain) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:0) in 1:15 hours and qualified for the second round of the Grand Slam tournament.

The Polish player scored 18 winners to win the match peremptory. The first set started equally as both players won their serve games and exchange two breaks for each. At 3:3, Iga Swiatek won her serve game on 15, but Cristina Bucsa equalized with the same result in the next game. The Spanish player even received a breakpoint in the 9th game, but Iga Swiatek saved it and won her serve. In the 10th game of the set, the Polish player received a breakpoint but did not miss it and closed the set at 6:4.

This was the cornerstone in the match and Iga Swiatek played the second set convincingly without giving a chance to her opponent and winning it at 6:0 with most of the games on 15.

Thus, Iga Swiatek qualified for the second round of the Roland Garros, where will face Claire Liu (USA), who defeated Ylena In-Albon (Switzerland) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:4).

The 2021 champion of the tournament Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) lost at her opening match versus Lesia Tsurenko (Ukraine) by 0-2 (2:, 4:6) and is out of the competition. The same was the fate of Victoria Azarenka (Belarus), who lost to Bianca Vanessa Andreescu (Canada) by 1-2 (2:6, 6:3, 4:6).

The 4th-seeded Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) needed less than an hour and a half to eliminate the 16-years-old Czech talent Brenda Fruhvirtova by 2-0 (6:4, 6:2), while Jasmine Paolini (Italy) eliminated in a three-set match Sorana Cirstea (Romania) by 2-1 (7:5, 2:6, 6:2).

Sara Sorribes Tormo (Spain) also advanced to the second round after defeating Clara Burel (France) by 2-0 (7:6, 6;2), as well as Lauren Davis (USA), who eliminated Lin Zhu (China) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:3), and Emma Navarro (USA), who defeated Erika Andreeva (Russia) by 2-1 (6:2, 3:6, 6:4).

In the last clash of the daily program, Petra Martic (Croatia) defeated Shelby Rogers (USA) by 2-1 (3:6, 6:3, 6:2).
