The world’s number one Iga Swiatek (Poland) ended her participation in the last Grand Slam tournament of the year – the US Open. The Polish tennis player lost her quarter-final clash with Jessica Pegula (USA) by 0-2 (2:6, 4:6) and remained far from the dream of another triumph at Flushing Meadows after her success in 2022. At the same time, Jessica Pegula continued the excellent performance of the Americans in the tournament this year, as a total of four representatives of the hosts – 2 for men and 2 for women – will play in the semi-finals.
Jessica Pegula, 30, achieved success surprisingly easily, staying on court for less than an hour and a half. In the first set, she was in complete control and took control with two quick early breaks to close it out at 6:2 in her favor.
The second set was a little more difficult for her. Again, Jessica Pegula broke early for 2:1, but Iga Swiatek immediately returned the break for 2:2. A short lull followed before the American made a second break in the seventh game, which turned out to be the key to the final success in the set with 6:4, and accordingly in the match.
Thus, Jessica Pegula will play for the first time in her career in the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament. There she will compete with Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic).
