Iga Swiatek is optimistic that she will recover for the French Open Roland-Garros tennis tournament and will compete to defend her title. The Polish player withdrew in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 Rome Open due to injury.
“Quick update.A couple of days off for sure. And booking my flight to Paris, so… fingers crossed, please! Hopefully, see you soon”, wrote Iga Swiatek on Twitter.
Iga Swiatek was on a 14-match winning streak in the tournament before retiring yesterday, as she won the titles in the past two years. If healthy, the Polish tennis player will surely be the favorite in Paris, although Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina will also eye on the Grand Slam title.
Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated Iga Swiatek in the final of the WTA 1000 Madrid Open earlier in the month, has never passed the third round in Paris. However, if she wins the title, the tennis player from Belarus will become world’s number one in the WTA ranking.
