The world’s number one Iga Swiatek lost at the semi-finals of the WTA Finals Fort Worth but is happy that the season is over.
The Polish tennis player, who made a series of 37 consecutive wins earlier this year, won a total of eight trophies, including the Grand Slam’s French Open Roland-Garros and the US Open. The 21-year-old Iga Swiatek was also considered a favorite in the WTA Finals Fort Worth, especially after winning all three matches in the group without losing a set, but in the semifinals dropped out of Aryna Sabalenka by 1-2 (2:6, 6:2, 1:6).
“I’m not going to lie, I was looking forward to this moment. It was quite difficult to see that the finish line was so close, but to remain completely motivated and concentrated for every match. So on the one hand I am sad that I lost, but on the other – I will have another extra day to rest. This is the positive”, said Iga Swiatek. “The season was very intense. I am proud of myself that I was able to play so well until the end. I am happy with what I did during the year, which was crazy. It will remain with me all my career and always will It makes me proud. Now I want to spend eight days without thinking about anything and without doing anything. For the first time I predict such a break because I usually go to places where I look at the sights and my vacation is active. I need a full recovery and a clearing of my head from thoughts of matches and tournaments. It will not be easy because the brain is used to being in a racing regime. Then I will gradually return to work and training for the new season. But by then there is time and now I want to enjoy the vacation”, added she.
Iga Swiatek ended the season with 67 wins and only 9 losses, but the loss from Sabalenka put an end to her series of 15 consecutive wins against the world’s top players.
