Iga Swiatek defeated the top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka to reach the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 Qatar Open

Iga Swiatek defeated the top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka with 2-0 (6:2, 6:3) to qualify for the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 Qatar Open in Doha.

The Polish player, who is WTA No 8, made 4 breaks against 2 of her opponent in the first set, which brought the win to her. The second set started with a lead for the Belarusian player, who took a lead of 3:0 with one break, but Iga Swiatek won the next 6 games to close the set and match from the first match point.

In the semi-finals, Iga Swiatek will face the Greek Maria Sakkari.

The Latvian Jelena Ostapenko also qualified for the semi-finals after defeating Garbine Muguruza with 2-0 (6:2, 6:2) in a match that lasted only 67 minutes. Jelena Ostapenko made 5 breaks against 2 for her opponent.

Thus, in the semi-finals the Latvian played will face the Estonian Anett Kontaveit.
