Paris 2024 Olympic marathon bronze medalist Hellen Obiri is not sure if she will represent Kenya at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics as she intends to focus on competing in the most prestigious marathons.
The two-time Boston Marathon winner will defend her title in New York on November 3 this year.
“I don’t see myself competing for Kenya at the next Olympics, that’s a long way off. At the moment I am focused on the marathons of the Major series. I have to do a good recovery because in the marathon you need 4 months to recover. We will discuss with the coaches and the manager to see what is best for me this season”, said Hellen Obiri. “There is no other place like New York and I am so ready to defend my title. I’ve been competing very well in the road races in the US and I hope to have another good day when we enter the final stretch in Central Park”, added the 34-year-old Kenyan athlete, who is also a two-time silver medalist at the world championships in the 5,000m.
Hellen Obiri, who also holds world silver in the 10,000m, made her marathon debut in 2022 in New York and won the race last year.
