Haruka Kitaguchi (Japan) is the new Olympic women’s javelin throw champion after winning gold in Paris with a 65.80m mark. Haruka Kitaguchi, who is world champion from Budapest 2023, has now taken the prestigious accolade with the best result of the season.

Second place went to Jo-Ane van Dyk (South Africa), who threw the javelin 63.93m. The third place goes to Nikola Ogrodníkova (Czech Republic) with 63.68m, for whom this is also the best result in the world for the season.

Haruka Kitaguchi so far has a Diamond League victory, throwing 65.80m in her first attempt, which later turned out to be a title result. She came close to the feat in just her fifth attempt when she posted a 64.73m.

The much more experienced player from South Africa committed only one foul from her six attempts, three of them over 60 meters. Her third shot of 63.93m secured the silver medal. Almost the same applies to Nikola Ogrodníkova. The 33-year-old silver medalist from the European Championships in Berlin in 2018 also made one foul, and the third performance brought her the bronze.

The Top 5 was completed by Sara Kolak (Croatia) with 63.40m and Flor Ruiz (Colombia) with 63.00m.

Of the medalists in Tokyo, only Maria Andrejczyk (Poland) reached the final today, but she remained in 8th place with 62.44m.
