Gudaf Tsegay attacks the 10,000m world record at the Eugene Diamond League

Reigning Olympic and World 10,000m champion Gudaf Tsegay (Ethiopia) will attack the 10,000m world record of 29:01:03 min set by Letesenbet Gidey in June 2021. She will try to improve it at the Eugene Diamond League on May 25.

Gudaf Tsegay has a personal best in the event of 29:29.73 min from her victory at the Ethiopian national championships last year. She also won the gold medal at the 2023 Budapest World Championships after the Dutch middle-distance runner Sifan Hassan fell meters before the final. Then Gudaf Tsegay crossed the finish line first in 31:27.18 min, and Letesenbet Gidey finished second with 31:28.16 min.

Letesenbet Gidey set the world record at Ethiopia’s Olympic qualifiers in Hengelo in 2021. She then broke Sifan Hassan’s previous record of 29:06.82 min set two days earlier at the same track.

Eugene Diamond League will be held on May 25, meeting the top athletes of the world just weeks before the starts of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
