Greek athlete Dimitra Gnafaki

Dimitra Gnafaki, a talented track and field athlete from Greece, who competes in the 400m hurdles. Her list of achievements includes multiple Greek national championships and two Balkan championship titles, showcasing her exceptional skill and dedication to the sport.

Born on July 9, 1997, in Serres, Greece, Dimitra Gnafaki initially attended the Gymnastics Academy in her hometown before fully committing to her athletic career, with a focus on the demanding 400m hurdles event.

Dimitra Gnafaki made her competitive debut in 2013, participating in the 400m event in Chania Venizelia and securing an impressive 4th place finish.

In 2014, she achieved notable success, earning a bronze medal at the Serres Greek Junior Championships and the Larisa Greek U18 Championships in the 400m event. Additionally, she clinched the bronze at the Serres Balkan Junior Championships as part of the 4x400m relay team.

Her specialization in the 400m hurdles began in 2016, and she excelled in this discipline throughout the season. Dimitra Gnafaki secured her first national medal by winning the silver at the Patra Greek Championships. Notable victories followed at the Chania Venizelia, Bolu Balkan U20 Championships, Serres Greek U20 Championships, and Larisa Greek U23 Championships. She also represented Greece at the Bydgoszcz IAAF World U20 Championships.

In 2017, Dimitra Gnafaki faced some challenges, finishing 7th at the Patra Greek Championships in the 400m hurdles. She then ventured to the United States, where attended at the University of Akron, finishing 7th at the Kalamazoo Mid-American Outdoor Championships and 4th at the Baton Rouge LSU Alumni Gold in the 400m hurdles. She also participated in the Ypsilanti Mid-American Conference Championships and Austin Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, aiming for greater success.

In 2018, Dimitra Gnafaki competed exclusively in the United States, securing 6th place at the Torrance Mt SAC Relays in both the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relays. Additionally, she clinched the gold in the 300m hurdles at the Akron Northeast Ohio Quad.

Throughout most of the 2019 season, Dimitra Gnafaki continued her competing in the United States, attaining the silver at the Northeast Ohio Quad Meet and the bronze at the Beach Invitational in the 400m hurdles. She also seized the silver at the Mid-American Conference Championships in the 4x400m relay. Towards the end of the season, she made her way back to Greece to participate in the Patra Greek Championships, finishing 4th in the 400m hurdles and taking home the gold in the same event at the Larisa Greek U23 Championships.

In 2020, Dimitra Gnafaki secured the 400m bronze at the Mid-American Conference Championships and the 4x400m relay silver at the Penn State National Invitational. Furthermore, she achieved her first national title during the season, triumphing with the 400m hurdles gold at the Patra Greek Championships.

The year 2021 saw Dimitra Gnafaki clinching another national title, winning the 400m hurdles gold at the Patra Greek Championships. However, her most significant accomplishment during the season was securing the 400m hurdles gold at the Smederevo Balkan Championships. Additionally, she finished 4th at the Cluj-Napoca European Athletics Team Championships First League in the 4x400m relay and achieved the 400m bronze at the Chania Venizelia Meeting.

In 2022, Dimitra Gnafaki won another national title in the 400m hurdles at the Thessaloniki Greek Senior Outdoor Championships. She secured a 4th place finish at the Oran XIX Mediterranean Games and also participated in the Munich European Athletics Championships and ATLETICAGENEVE – EAP. During the same period, she achieved a silver medal at the Dromia International Sprint and Relays Meeting and Chania Venizelia International Meeting, along with a bronze at the Craiova Balkan Championships.

Moving on to 2023, Dimitra Gnafaki excelled by capturing gold medals in the 400m hurdles and securing silver medals in the 4x400m relay at both the Volos Greek Championships and Kraljevo Balkan Championships. Furthermore, she attained a silver medal in the 400m hurdles at the Dromia International Sprint and Relays Meeting and Chania Venizelia International Meeting. Notably, the Greek athlete competed at the Budapest World Athletics Championships, narrowly missing out on reaching the finals.

Dimitra Gnafaki started the 2024 season by winning the gold at the Piraeus Greek Indoor Championships in the 4x400m relay, before capturing the 400m hurdles silver at the Volos Greek Championships. Meanwhile, she won the gold at the 4th Alexandrino Meeting – Georgios Pantos Memorial and GRAND SLAM Jerusalem, but also competed at the Roma European Athletics Championships.
