German tennis talent Eva Lys has announced that she is suffering from a rheumatic autoimmune disease, which has kept her off the court for a short time.
The world’s No 146 wrote on Instagram that she decided to announce the news publicly because “in recent months I have been receiving an increasing number of messages about my physical condition as I had to miss a tournament or two”.
“In 2020, I was diagnosed with Rheumatic Autoimmune Disease (Spondyloarthritis). This is a challenge I face every day in my career. Thanks to the fantastic support and treatment from my medical team, I am still able to pursue my dreams and to show my best. However, there are times when I am forced to make last-minute changes and adjustments to my tournament schedule”, added Eva Lys.
“During my sports career, I was told that I was too weak. But the more I heard it, the stronger it made me”, commented the tennis player.
Kiev-born Eva Lys, 22, has three ITF titles in her career, a former German champion and a participant in the Billie Jean King Cup tournament.
