Romanian 12th-seeded Simona Halep also took a clear victory over Christina Kukova of Slovakia by 2-0 (6:3, 6:1).
Tunisian player Ons Jabeur also advanced to the third round after an easy victory over Colombia’s María Camila Osorio Serrano with 2-0 (6:0, 6:1) in 53 minutes.
The fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina, a semifinalist in New York two years ago, qualified for the third round also after the victory of the Spaniard Rebeka Masarova with 2-0 (6:2, 7:5).
