Garbine Muguruza advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 Qatar Open. The fifth-seeded Spaniard easily won with 2-0 (6:0, 6:2) over Madison Brengle (USA) in just 63 minutes.
The 28-year-old Garbine Muguruza, who is WTA No 9, made a total of five breaks and finished the match in her second matchball. In the next round, the former Wimbledon and Roland Garros champion will play against Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko. Seventh-seeded Poland’s player Iga Swiatek won with 2-0 (6:3, 6:0) over Daria Kasatkina of Russia. The Rolland Garros 2020 champion will face Aryna Sabalenka in the quarter-finals. The representative of Belarus and leader in the main draw did not face any difficulties against the Swiss Jil Teichmann and won by 2-0 (6:2, 6:1).
Maria Sakkari eliminated Jessica Pegula with 2-0 (6:4, 7:5) and will play against the young Cori “Coco” Gauff in the quarterfinals.
In the second set, the Greek made a break in the opening shot of the American for 6:5 to end the match in her first matchball in 105 minutes. The 8th-seeded Ons Jabeur (Tunisia) eliminated the Czech Tereza Martincova after 2-1 (6:1, 3:6, 6:3) and will play against the Estonian Anett Kontaveit.
