Gabriela Dabrowski (Canada) and Erin Routliffe (New Zealanad) are the US Open 2023 doubles champions defeating the former champions Laura Siegemund (Germany) and Vera Zvonareva (Russia) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:3).
Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe, who started playing together just a month ago, saved eight out of nine breakpoints and cruised to the win after 2:14 hours of play. For the New Zealand’s tennis player, this is the first Grand Slam title, and for Gabriela Dabrowski it is the third, after mixed doubles trophies at the 2017 French Open / Roland Garros and 2018 Australia Open.
“Thanks to Gabby for playing with me. She took the risk and I really appreciate that. I hope we get more results like this in the future”, said Erin Routliffe, who has also played under the Canadian flag in the past.
Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe won the first set with a tiebreak, and in the second they quickly took a 3:0 lead after two breaks and only one game won by their rivals on their own serve. They closed out the match with their third match point and another break.
