Gabby Thomas suffered an injury at last year’s USA Track and Field National Championships, but has now set a world best for the season in the 200m sprint. She clocked 21.60 sec to win the women’s event title in Eugene, Oregon. Gabrielle Thomas edged out Sha’Carri Richardson in 21.94 sec and Kayla White in 22.01 sec.
“What happened last year was heartbreaking for me, so this year I was really ready”, said Gabrielle Thomas after the event. “I was hungry, I wanted it I think more than anyone”, added she.
With the victory, Gabby Thomas qualified for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, in late August.
Rio 2016 Olympic champion Dalilah Muhammad fell short of the women’s 400m hurdles title. She recorded a time of 53.53 sec, while Shamier Little became the champion with 53.34 sec.
Nia Akins won the women’s 800m title in 1:59.50 min.
