French athlete Laura Valette

Laura Valette is a French athlete and a specialist in the 100m hurdles. She won a gold medal at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics and the European U23 and European U20 Championships Bronze medallist. Her personal bests are 13.04 sec in the 100m hurdles and 8.13 sec in the 60m hurdles.

Laura Valette was born on February 16, 1997, in Saint Herblain, France. She started in athletics at an early age with the ASPTT Nantes Club. She specialized in hurdles in 2012, the year she set the minimum French record for the 80m hurdles in 11.19 sec. Laura Valette joined the Nantes Educational Center for Sports in order to reconcile her school curriculum and her sports career.

In 2013, Laura Valette won the gold at the Lyon French U18 Indoor Championships in 60m hurdles and the 12th European Youth Olympic Festival in 100m hurdles. During the season she won the gold at the regional events at Aubiere Meeting des Volcans, Mondeville, Mayenne U18, Val-de-Reuil U18, and Eaubonne Regional Junior Indoor Championships in the 60m hurdles, as well as Laval U18, Cesson-Sevignem, and Vineuil U18 in 100m hurdles.

Laura Valette dominated at the national youth championships in 2014, winning the gold at the Valence French U18 Championships in 100m hurdles and Val-de-Reuil French U18 Indoor Championships in 60m hurdles. She won the gold at the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games in 100m hurdles with a time of 13.34 sec.

In 2015, she won the gold at the Nantes French Junior Indoor Championships and Lyon FRA-GER-ITA Junior Indoor Match in 60m hurdles, as well as the bronze at the Eskilstuna European Junior Championships in 100m hurdles.

Laura Valette earned the gold at the Nantes French Junior Indoor Championships in 60m hurdles and Chateauroux French U20 Championships in 100m hurdles. She also competed at the Bydgoszcz IAAF World U20 Championships but remained only 8th in the final. Although quite young, Laura Valette also competed at the Angers French Championships in 100m hurdles, finishing 8th. During the season she won bronze at the Minsk International Indoor U20 Match.

In 2017, Laura Valette was one of the top hurdlers in France in all ages. She won gold at the Lyon French U23 Indoor Championships and silver at the Bordeaux French Indoor Championships in 60m hurdles during the indoor season, as well as gold at the La-Roche-sur-Yon Meeting National and the Argentan Meeting National in 100m hurdles. During the outdoor season, she also won silver at the Montreuil-sous-Bois Meeting International and the Montgeron Meeting Elite in 100m hurdles, and competed at the European Team Championships and Bydgoszcz European U23 Championships, remaining 5th and 8th, respectively.

In 2018, Laura Valette earned the gold at the Aubiere French U23 Indoor Championships and Lievin French Indoor Championships in 60m hurdles. During the outdoor season, she debuted in the Diamond League, competing at the Roma Golden Gala – Pietro Mennea, remaining 7th. She won gold at the Jesolo Mediterranean U23 Championships and silver at the Sotteville-lès-Rouen Meeting International in 100m hurdles. During the season she competed at the European Athletics Championships but did not reach the finals.

Laura Valette continue dominating French athletics in 2019, winning gold at the French U23 Championships and French Championships, silver at the Meeting Stanislas Nancy, and bronze at the Gavle European U23 Championships in 100m hurdles. She also competed at the Doha IAAF World Championships in Athletics.

In 2020, Laura Valette won silver at the Meeting Elite en salle de Nantes in 6m hurdles, as well as gold at the Meeting Regional du Cac in 100m hurdles.

Laura Valette continue competing at a high level in 2021, being part of the French Team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Unfortunately, she failed to reach the final finishing 8th in the heats. During the season, she won gold at the ATLETICAGENEVE, Meeting National de Poitiers, and Meeting Estival Athletes Listes. She again competed in the Diamond League, finishing 8th in the Muller Grand Prix Gateshead.

In 2022, Laura Valette won silver at the Meeting de Paris Indoor in 60m hurdles. She also won gold at the French Championships in 100m hurdles. She took part at the European Athletics Championships but did not reach the final.

In 2023, Laura Valette made a fantastic indoor season, winning bronze at the Mondeville Meeting and gold at Championnats Regionaux en Salle. At the start of the outdoor season, she won gold medals at the Meeting de la Reunion and Championnat de France des Clubs in 100m hurdles.
