World Athletics has announced the five finalists who will compete for the “Female Athlete in the World” for 2022. The competition will be quite serious as there have been some extremely classy performances in women’s athletics over the past year.
Here are the five finalists:
Tobi Amusan, Nigeria
– world champion in 100m hurdles
– winner of the Diamond League, Commonwealth Games, and Africa games
– set a 100m hurdles world record of 12.12 sec;
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Jamaica
– world champion at 100m for the fifth time in her career
– winner of the Diamond League
– set a world best for the season in the 100m of 10.62 sec and ran under 10.70 sec seven times this season;
Kimberly García, Peru
– world champion in 20km sports walking, won the first medal for Peru from the world championship in athletics
– world champion in 35km sports walking with a South American record
– bronze medalist in 20km sports walking from the World Team Sports Walking Championship;
Sydney McLaughlin, USA
– world champion in 400m hurdles and 4x400m
– broke the world record in the 400m backstrokes with 51.41 sec at the US National Championships
– improved for the second time the world record for the world title in Eugene – 50.68 sec;
Yulimar Rojas, Venezuela
– world champion in the indoor and outdoor triple jump
– Diamond League triple jump winner
– improved the indoor world record after reaching 15.74m in Belgrade.
