Fifth-seeded Jessica Pegula (USA) was eliminated in the second round of Wimbledon after losing in three sets 1-2 (4:6, 7:6, 1:6) from Wang Xinyu (China).
Wang Xinyu landed 38 winners, combined with 33 unforced errors by Jessica Pegula. It was Wang Xinyu’s first win over a Top 10 player.
“A few days ago I asked my coach when this would happen. Jessica is a really tough opponent on grass and I’m really happy that I was able to win in the end”, said Wang Xinyu.

Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia), who is 13th-seed, eliminated Daria Snigur (Ukraine) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:0), while the 17th-seeded Anna Kalinskaya (Russia) recorded a victory over Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:1). The 14th-seeded Daria Kasatkina (Russia) had no problems against Yuriko Miyazaki (Great Britain). The Russian won by 2-0 (6:0, 6:0) and did not gave a game to her opponent. Daria Kasatkina’s next opponent will be Paula Badosa (Spain), who won earlier today over Brenda Fruhvirtova (Czech Republic) with 2-0 (6:4, 6:2).
Brazilian tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia, who is 20th-seed, also reached the third round after a withdrawal of her opponent Camila Osorio (Colombia) in the first set at 3:0, while Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan) eliminated 27th-seed Katerina Siniakova (Czech Republic) (6:0, 4:6, 6:2).
Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) prevailed over Katie Volynets (USA) with 2-0 (7:6, 7:6), and in an all-Spanish clash, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro eliminated Cristina Bucsa by 2-0 (7:6, 6:3).
