Femke Bol and Sifan Hassan will lead the Netherlands team for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest

Tokyo 2020 double Olympic long-distance running champion Sifan Hassan and three-time Munich 2022 European champion Femke Bol will lead the Netherlands team for the men’s and women’s World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary from August 19 to 27.

Sifan Hassan will compete in all three events in which she runs at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics – 1,500m, 5,000m and 10,000m. There she won two titles (5,000m and 10,000m) and a bronze medal in the 1,500m.

At the World Athletics Championships, Sifan Hassan took 1,500m and 10,000m titles in 2019. She won a bronze at the 1,500m in 2015, and at the 5,000m in 2017 when she also finished fifth in the 1,500m. Sifan Hassan is a three-time World Indoor Championships medalist, winning gold at 1,500m in 2016 as well as silver at 3,000m and bronze for 1,500m in 2018.

Femke Bol will focus on the 400m hurdles, where she recently ran the European record to 51.45 sec. She will also run in the women’s 4x400m relay and the 4x400m medley.

Femke Bol also has world best performances in the 300m hurdles and 500m indoor and she holds the Dutch record in the 200m indoor. She was the bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and she is a four-time silver medalist at the world championships (outdoor and indoor combined), a seven-time gold medalist at the European championships (outdoor and indoor combined), and a two-time champion of the Diamond League.

The selection of the Netherlands for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest includes over 40 athletes.
