Italian Alpine skier Federica Brignone won the women’s giant slalom, another round of the Alpine Skiing World Cup at the Mont-Tremblant Resort in Canada. She picked up her ninth win in the event and 22nd overall of her career. The Italian also became the oldest winner of the women’s giant slalom at the World Cup, and also tied for victories with her compatriot Sofia Goggia.
Federica Brignone gave a total time in both heats of 2:14.95 min. Earlier in the day, the Italian also topped the classification in the first run with 1:06:50 min, ahead of Sara Hector (Sweden) by 0.11 sec and Lara Gut-Behrami (Switzerland) by 0.35 sec.
Second today in the giant slalom on Canadian soil was Petra Vlhova (Slovenia), who made a good second run and was 0.21 sec slower than Federica Brignone’s time.
World Cup winner Mikaela Shiffrin (USA), who was fifth after the first run, fought her way to third in the race, 0.29 sec behind the winner.
Federica Brignone climbed to fifth overall in the Alpine Skiing World Cup with 220 points. The leader is Mikaela Shiffrin with 410 points, followed by Petra Vlhova with 346 ponts and Sara Hector, who finished fourth today, with 274 points.
In the standings for the small World Cup in the discipline, Lara Gut-Behrami leads with 245 points. Federica Brignone is second with 220 points, and in third place is Petra Vlhova with 166, 6 points ahead of the fourth Mikaela Shiffrin.
Another start in the women’s giant slalom is scheduled for tomorrow in Mont-Tremblant Resort.
