Federica Brignone (Italy) won the women’s super giant slalom of the Alpine Skiing World Cup in the French resort of Val-d’Isere. Federica Brignone was one of the few who made an almost flawless ride and logically managed to get to the first position with a time of 1:21.58 min.
Kajsa Vickhoff Lie (Norway) finished in second place. She was just 0.44 sec behind Federica Brignone’s time. Third finished another Italian – Sofia Goggia, who was slower than Federica Brignone by 0.59 sec.
Only one other skier managed to stay less than a second behind the winner. It was Cornelia Hutter (Austria), who finished with a deficit of 0.87 sec.
The Swiss skiers Michelle Gisin and Joana Hahlen finished within the top 6, but their delay was more than a second.
The track in Val-d’Isere clearly proved to be very challenging for a large part of the leading competitors who did not manage to finish. Fouls and disqualifications were recorded by World Cup winner Mikaela Shiffrin (USA), as well as specialist in the discipline Lara Gut-Behrami. Alice Robinson (New Zealand) and Marta Bassino (Italy), as well as three-time Olympic champion Ester Ledecka, also failed to reach the final. In total, only 32 skiers out of 58 who started reached the final.
In the ranking for the World Cup, Mikaela Shiffrin remains in the lead with 620 points. Second with 557 is Federica Brignone and third with 429 is Lara Gut-Behrami.
In the standings for the Little Crystal Globe in the super giant slalom, Sofia Goggia leads with 160 points, ahead of Federica Brignone with 145 and Cornelia Hutter with 130 points.
The next women’s World Cup race is the slalom in Courchevel (France) on December 21.
