Fanny Stollar (Hungary) qualified for the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Hungarian Grand Prix after defeating the 5th-seeded Tatjana Maria (Germany) by 2-1 (6:3, 2:6, 7:6) in 2:20 hours of play.
Both players exchanged a set in the beginning of the match, as in the first Fanny Stollar made three breaks against one for her opponent and in the second Tatjana Maria recorded three breaks against one for her opponent.
The third set, however, brought a lot of turnovers and intrigue. Tatjana Maria took a lead after breaking her opponent in the third game of the set and took a lead of 3:1 after winning her next serve game. Fanny Stollar succeeded to equalize in the eighth game after returning the break. In the eleventh game of the set, Tatjana Maria again broke her opponent to lead by 6:5 and to serve for the match, but in the next game gave three breakpoint to Fanny Stollar at 0-40. Thus, the Hungarian player equalized again to 6:6 and the set entered into a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Tatjana Maria first reached two match points, but Fanny Stollar saved them and at her turn materialized her first matchpoint.
Thus, Fanny Stollar qualified for the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Hungarian Grand Prix, where will face the winner between Amarissa Kiara Toth (Hungary) and Kateryna Baindl (Ukraine).
The American tennis player Claire Liu eliminated the 4th-seeded Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan) after 2-0 (6:3, 7:6) and also advanced to the quarter-finals, where will face the 8th-seeded Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (Slovakia), who defeated Tamara Korpatsch (Germany).
Kaja Juvan (Slovenia) also advance at the tournament after defeating Astra Sharma (Australia) by 2-1 (6:2, 4:6, 6:2).
