Faith Kipyegon won the 5,000m gold at Paris Diamond League breaking the world record

Two-time Olympic and World 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon appears to be in her life-time best form. The Kenyan athlete broke a second world record in eight days. After last week Faith Kipyegon became the first woman with a result under 3:50 min in 1,500m at the Florence Diamond League, today at the Paris Diamond League, the Kenyan made history and broke the world record in 5,000m.

The 29-year-old Faith Kipyegon finished first with 14:05.20 min, ahead of the current world record holder Letesenbet Gidey. The Ethiopian athlet Letesenbet Gidey led the race for most of the race, but at one point Faith Kipyegon took the lead and with extremely strong final meters broke a second world record in eight days.

“I don’t know how to express it. It’s like I am dreaming. I am so happy and emotional right now. I just wanted to improve on my PB, the world record was not my plan. I just ran after Gidey”, said Faith Kipyegon after the race.

Letesenbet Gidey took the second place with 14:07.94 min, while her compatriot Ejgayehu Taye won the bronze with 14:13.31 min.

Lilian Kasait Rengeruk (Kenya) remained 4th, while Freweyni Hailu (Ethiopia) was 5th, both outside the medals’ zone.
