Faith Kipyegon will debut at the World Athletics Road Running Championship

Faith Kipyegon wants to end the season on a high. She will make her debut in the road mile at the World Athletics Road Running Championship in Riga, Latvia on October 1. The 1,500m world record holder is a double gold medalist in the 1,500m and 5,000m at the recently concluded World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Despite her strong form, Faith Kipyegon faces stiff competition from the Ethiopian duo of world 1,500m silver medalist Diribe Welteji as well as Freweyni Hailu, but also will have Beatrice Chepkoech on the track.

Jessica Hull (Australia), in the top eight all-time milers at the track, should not be missed either.

Faith Kipyegon is a Kenyan middle- and long-distance runner. She is the current world record holder for the 1,500m, mile, and 5,000m, all set in 2023. At both the Rio 2016 Olympics and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Faith Kipyegon won a gold medal in the 1,500m. She also won a gold medal in the 1,500m at the 2017, 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships and in the 5,000m at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. She is the only female athlete to win both the 1,500m and 5,000m event at the same world championships (2023).
