Faith Kipyegon claimed her third World Athletics Championships title at 1,500m

Two-time Olympic champion and 1,500m world record holder Faith Kipyegon won her third outdoor World Athletics Championships title. The 29-year-old Kenyan athlete left no chance to her rivals in the final lap, after the finalists had previously run in a group, and prevailed in 3:54.87 min.

The Ethiopian Diribe Welteji fought for the silver medal with 3:55.69 min, and Sifan Hassan remained in the third position with 3:56.00 min.

Faith Kipyegon kicked hard as the bell sounded, opening up daylight between her and Welteji with 200 metres to go. Hassan, meanwhile, had moved up into third place, overtaking Mageean, Muir and Kenya’s Nelly Chepchirchir.

Faith Kipyegon, who is also a back-to-back Olympic champion following success in Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro, broke a third world record in 2023 when she posted a time of 3:54.87 min. She is unstoppable this season, after winning the Diamond League 1,500m, events at Firenze and Doha.
