Two-time Olympic and two-time world 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon is definitely in the form of her life. The 29-year-old Kenyan broke a third world record so far this season. Faith Kipyegon won the one-mile race at the Monaco Diamond League in an outstanding 4:07.64 min. The Kenyan knocked more than four seconds off Sifan Hassan’s world record from the same event in Monaco in 2019. Earlier in the season, in the space of less than ten days, Faith Kipyegon broke the 1,500m and 5,000m world records.
“I really enjoyed the race. I came for this, I wanted to chase the world record”, said Faith Kipyegon after another impressive run.
Second place in the one mile in Monaco went to Ireland’s Ciara Mageean with a new national and personal record of 4:14.58 min. The third position went to the world silver medalist in the 800m indoor from Belgrade 2022 Freweyni Hailu (Ethiopia) with 4:14.79 min.
Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon is the current world record holder for the 1,500m, one mile, and 5,000m, all set in 2023. At both the Rio 2016 Olympics and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Faith Kipyegon won a gold medal in the 1,500m. She also won a gold medal in the 1,500m at the 2017 and 2022 World Athletics Championships. As a junior, Faith Kipyegon won gold medals at the 2011 and 2013 World Cross Country Championships and in the 1,500m at the 2011 World Youth Championships and the 2012 World Junior Championships.
