Excellent Anett Kontaveit started WTA Finals in Guadalajara with a victory over Barbora Krejcikova

Anett Kontaveit started her tour at the WTA Finals in Guadalajara with a victory versus Barbora Krejcikova by 2-0 (6:3, 6:4) in a match that lasted 76 minutes.

The Estonian Anett Kontaveit, who is the world’s No 8, made only two breaks during the match but they were enough to get the win and took the lead in the group.

The first set started equally with both players winning the service games. However, in the fourth game, Anett Kontaveit got a breakpoint and succeeded to win the service game of Czech player Barbora Krejcikova, who is the workout’s No 3. by the end of the set there were no breakpoints for any of the players, each winning the service games. In the ninth game, Anett Kontaveit was serving for the set, having two service points. She lost the first one, but did not made a mistake in the second and won the set.

The second set started with an early break for the Estonian, who took a comfortable lead. She defended the break and the match continue exchanging game by game. In the seventh game, Anett Kontaveit had another break point chance, but she missed it and Barbora Krejcikova remained in the match. However, by the end of the set, the Czech player had no chance to break her perfect opponent. In the tenth game of the set, Anett Kontaveit had one match point and did not miss it, winning the set by 6:4.

In the second match of the group, Anett Kontaveit will face Karolina Pliskova (WTA No 4), while Barbora Krejcikova will play versus Garbine Muguruza (WTA No 5).
