Glasgow 2024 world 60m indoor silver medalist Ewa Swoboda (Poland) claimed the 100m victory at the 63rd Ostrava Golden Spike athletics tournament just days before the European Athletics Championships in Rome from June 7-12. The Polish athlete earned the gold in the event with 11.05 seconds (0.7 m/sec).
Gambian athlete Gina Mariam Bass Bittaye finished second in 11.14 sec, while Zaynab Dosso (Italy) took the bronze with 11.18 seconds.
Ewa Swoboda is a three-time European Indoor Championships medallist in the 60m, having won the gold medal in 2019 and silvers in 2017 and 2023.
“I am super happy. In my first individual race of the season I expected to run 11.10 sec. But I was running even faster and the conditions were not good. The wind was more cross than head and it was quite cold. It was a strong race, so I’m happy with the win. I don’t plan any more races before Rome. The World Relays in the Bahamas took a lot out of me, so I need to rest more and not compete. As for the European Championships, I don’t want to make predictions, but I would be satisfied with any color of medal”, said Ewa Swoboda after her victory in Ostrava tonight.
Meanwhile, in the 100m hurdles of the 63rd Ostrava Golden Spike athletics tournament, Ditaji Kambundji (Switzerland) earned the gold with 12.68 sec (-0.6 m/sec). She left behind two European champions – Pia Skrzyszowska (Poland) with the silver, clocking at 12.71 sec, and Nadine Visser (Netherlands), who finished third in 12.86 sec.
