European Athletics has announced the finalists for the Girls’ Rising Star for 2022. The winner will be announced on October 22 in Tallinn (Estonia). In 2021, the award went to the Olympic bronze medalist in the 400m hurdles and European record holder in the discipline, Femke Bol (Netherlands).
The finalists for 2022 are Karmen Bruus (Estonia), Elina Tzengko (Greece) and Angelina Topic (Serbia).
Karmen Bruus finished seventh in the high jump at the European Under-18 Championships in Jerusalem and the Women’s World Championships in Eugene. In the final in the USA, she equaled the world best for girls under 18 with 1.96m. The Estonian triumphed as the girls’ world champion in Cali (Colombia).
Greek javelin thrower Elina Tzengko won the U20 and Women’s European titles. In Munich, she recorded a personal best of 65.81m, beating Adriana Vilagos and world record holder Barbora Spotakova.
Serbian high jumper athlete Angelina Topic participated in the World Championships in Belgrade in the winter. In the summer, she earned three medals at the major forums. The Serbian equaled the all-time girls’ under-18 world record in the high jump of 1.96m. She won the European girls’ under-18 title, earned bronze at the European Women’s in Munich, and the World Girls’ Under-20 in Cali also finished third. Angelina Topic cleared 1.90m in ten indoor and outdoor events in 2022.
