Eugenie Bouchard started strongly at the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open Akron and advanced to the second round after defeating Renata Zarazua (Mexico) by 2-0 (6:1, 7:6) in 1:31 hours of play.
The Canadian tennis player started strongly the match, recording two breaks and taking a lead of 5:0, before giving just one game to her opponent and closed the set at 6:1. The second set was quite more equal, both players winning their serving games in the beginning. Eugenie Bouchard was the first to take a lead with a break by 3:2 and then 4:2, and had a chance to serve for the match at 5:4, but made a mistake giving two break points to he opponent and Renata Zarazua used already the first to take and game and equalize. Another Canadian tennis player, Leylah Fernandez, also advanced to the second round of the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open Akron after defeating the qualifier Asia Muhammad (USA) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:3) and in the next round will face Elise Mertens (Belgium), who won the all-Belgium clash with Yanina Wickmayer by 2-0 (7:6, 6:2).
The American tennis player Taylor Townsend also advanced to the next round after defeating Ajla Tomljanovic (Australia) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:4) and will face the 5th-seeded Belinda Bencic.
Sloane Stephens (USA) defeated her compatriot Ann Li by 2-0 (7:5, 6:4), while Aliaksandra Sasnovich (Belarus) won versus Arantxa Rus (Netherlands) by 2-0 (6:1, 7:6) and 16th-seeded Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) eliminated Ena Shibahara (Japan) by 2-0 (7:5, 6:2).
Earlier, Cristina Bucsa (Spain), Hailey Baptiste (USA), Dayana Yastremska (Ukraine), Anhelina Kalinina (Ukraine), Alycia Parks (USA), Martina Trevisan (Italy) and Jasmine Paolini (Italy) also won their opening match at the tournament and advanced to the second round.
