Ethiopian long-distance runner Gudaf Tsegay made a very strong run for the world title at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Belgrade.
The bronze medalist from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the 5,000m, as well as the bronze in the 1,500m at the World Championships in 2019, and the current world indoor record holder in the 1,500m led the way from the beginning and made a big difference over her competitors. After giving 4:06.71 min in the semifinals and qualifying for the final with seventh time, today the Ethiopian grabbed the world title with 3:57.19 min. This is also a new championship record.
The teammate of the winner Axumawit Embaye took second place with 4:02.18 min after she had qualified for the final with the first time (4:04.83 min).
And the Ethiopian won also the bronze – Hirut Meshesha with 4:03.07 min. Before that, she had reached the final with a second time of 4:05.75 min.
