The 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu withdrew from the WTA 250 ATX Open tennis tournament in Austin (USA) due to a sore throat. The 20-year-old Briton has not played since her Australian Open loss to Cori Coco Gauff in January.
Emma Raducanu’s star rose two years ago with the US Open title when she won the trophy after passing through the qualifiers and without losing a set, but since then the player has not been able to maintain the level after a series of injuries and poor form.
“I regret to withdraw from ATX Open. I am currently suffering from tonsillitis and cannot compete this week. Thanks to the tournament for the great hospitality here in Austin”, said Emma Raducanu.
Emma Raducanu is a British professional tennis player. She reached a career-high ranking of No 10 by the Women’s Tennis Association on July 11, 2022, and is the current British No 1. Raducanu is the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title since Virginia Wade at the 1977 Wimbledon Championships.
