Emma Raducanu withdrew from the next week’s WTA 250 Hong Kong Tennis Open

The 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu (Great Britain) has withdrawn from next week’s WTA 250 Hong Kong Tennis Open tournament.

Former world’s number ten British tennis player explained that she is still not fully recovered from a foot injury that saw her miss four other Asian Tour events in Beijing, Wuhan, Ningbo and Guangzhou in the past month.

“I’m sorry to say that I will not be able to play in Hong Kong next week. Whilst my foot is making good progress, I need a little more time before I am match fit. I hope to be able to come back and play this tournament in the future”, wrote Emma Raducanu in her social media account. “In the meantime, I am doing what I can to be ready for BJKC”, added she.

Emma Raducanu last played in Seoul on September 21 when she suffered the injury and was forced to withdraw during her quarter-final match against Daria Kasatkina (Russia).

Emma Raducanu, 21, has been dogged by physical problems since her big triumph at Flushing Meadows in New York three years ago. She missed much of the previous season with ankle and wrist surgeries.

The Briton, currently ranked 55th in the world, is hoping to be in line for the finals of the Billie Jean King Cup, an unofficial women’s world team championship in which Great Britain will meet Germany in the first round on November 15 in Spain city ​​of Malaga.
