Emma Raducanu withdrew before her start of the WTA 1000 Madrid Open due to a right-hand injury

The British tennis talent Emma Raducanu withdrew before her start of the WTA 1000 Madrid Open due to a right-hand injury. She did this just a few hours before her opening match at the lay tournament versus the Bulgarian lucky loser qualifier Viktoriya Tomova.

Emma Raducanu travelled to the Spanish capital hoping to end a run of three straight defeats, but her medical team decided to withdraw he from the match amid the increased hurt at the right hand.

The British tennis player complained of a right-hand injury for some time.

As a result of her withdrawal in Madrid, Emma Raducanu, who is the world’s No 85, is likely to fall outside the WTA’s top-100 for the first time since her surprise triumph at the 2021 US Open.

Meanwhile, Julia Grabher (Austria) replaced the British player against Viktoriya Tomova. The Austrian tennis player won the match by 2-0 (6:1, 7:6) in 1:25 hours.
