The British tennis talent Emma Raducanu will not be part of the UK team at the Billie Jean King Cup, the unofficial World Women’s Tennis Championship.
The 20-year-old former US Open champion, now ranked 77th in the world rankings, has reached the third round of the Indian Wells Open tournament, where she lost against the leader in the world rankings and top-seeded, Iga Swiatek.
British team captain Anne Keothavong included Harriet Dart, Heather Watson, Katie Boulter, Olivia Nicholls, and Alicia Barnett for the match against France in Coventry on April 14 and 15.
Last season, the British reached the semifinals at Billie Jean King Cup, but lost against Australia in November.
Emma Raducanu suffered several injuries during the last few months and recently complained of problems with her wrist again. She reached a career-high ranking of No 10 by the Women’s Tennis Association on July 11, 2022 shortly after winning US Open.
